CASA Rochester

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) trains and supervises a diverse group of volunteers to advocate for children in Monroe County who have been abused and/or neglected. These innocent victims are at risk of being removed from home for their own safety and being placed with a relative, foster parents or in an institution. CASA's goal is a safe, permanent home for these children as soon as possible. WHAT DOES CASA DO FOR CHILDREN? Family Court Judges assign CASA to advocate for children who have been abused and/or neglected. CASA provides quality advocacy for the children including issues of safety, education, mental and physical health, visitation, and finding a safe, permanent home. CASA acts as a fact-finder, reporter (verbal and written reports in court), monitor, facilitator, encourager and helper. CASA will attend court hearings, case meetings, school conferences and visits between the child and the parent(s). CASA volunteers build relationships with the children, their biological parents, foster parents, attorneys, case workers, mental and physical health providers, school representatives and other service providers. CONSISTENCY OF CASA VOLUNTEERS IS IMPORTANT Attorneys, foster parents, therapists, and judges may change. The CASA volunteer may been one constant in the life of a child. Consistency is important and beneficial for children. CASA STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS CASA has 1 Director and 3 part-time staff supporting 50 trained, dedicated volunteers serving 211 children in 68 families. FINANCIAL INFORMATION Financial support from the NY State Unified Court System covers only 29% of our expenses. We must raise 71% of our funding from individual donations, businesses, foundations, churches, and civic organizations. THE BOTTOM LINE CASA makes a significant difference for children in our community who have been innocent victims of abuse and/or neglect. We ask you to partner with us to make that happen. Thank you for your consideration!
