Camp Good Days and Special Times, Inc.

Camp Good Days and Special Times, Inc. is dedicated to improving the lives of children, adults and families who have been touched by cancer and other life challenges through summer camping experiences and year-round events and activities. The organization was founded in 1979 by Gary Mervis, who sought to provide a residential camping experience for his daughter, Teddi Mervis, and 62 other children with cancer in Upstate New York. It since has grown to become one of the largest organizations of its kind in the world, having served over 50,000 campers from 22 states and 36 countries. Each summer, camp offers week-long residential camping programs to children ages eight to seventeen who have faced a cancer or sickle cell anemia diagnosis, and children who have a parent or sibling diagnosed with cancer or who has a parent or sibling who has passed away from cancer. Also offered are week-long day camp experiences for children ages four to seven who have been impacted by cancer or sickle cell anemia. Camp Good Days' Adult Oncology Programs offer weekend residential camping experiences and year-round recreational programs for adults who have been diagnosed with cancer. Some of the activities during the past summer camping seasons have included: • Woodworking • Arts & Crafts • Nature • Music and Drama • Sports & Games • Aquatics - swimming, fishing, boating, canoe trips • Reptile Shows Evening Activities • Pool Parties • Campfires • Monte Carlo Nights/Dances • Talent Shows • Fireworks • Drive-In Movies • Dance Parties Specialized Activities • Scuba Diving • Cookie Baking • Professional Painting Classes • Band and Orchestra Performances • Visits from Rochester Professional Sports Teams • Visits from Rochester Area College Sports Teams These programs give campers the opportunity to heal and cope, build memories they will carry forever, and help keep courage alive during even their most difficult challenges. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Camp Good Days has still been providing necessary and fun experiences for the children and families in our community diagnosed with cancer and sickle cell anemia. Even though we were not able to have in-person residential camp this summer, we are still providing our campers with multiple COVID-19 compliant, safe and fun experiences, and we are continuing to raise funds that will help set the stage for us to be able to provide our residential camping programs in the future. All programs and services at Camp Good Days and Special Times are provided to children and their families free of charge. This is made possible by the generous donations from very special individuals and organizations in the community. On November 30, help Camp Good Days ROC the Day!
