The Geneva Community Lunch program is located in downtown Geneva, a central location for many of Geneva's low-income residents. Administered by Catholic Charities of the Finger Lakes, the Community Lunch Program is the only week-day resource of its kind in this community. Over 20,000 meals are served each year through the cooperative efforts of countless volunteers, and the generous support and contributions of many area business, farmers and individuals.
Recognized as an essential service by the area's human service network, the program frequently receives referrals from organizations including the Department of Social Services, the American Red Cross, area food pantries, the Salvation Army, and the faith-based community. While individuals are served on a walk-in basis, and no formal referrals are required, the willingness of local services providers to refer needy individuals to the program is indicative of the established role the program plays in meeting a need in Geneva.
Community resources, are, in turn promoted at this program. Regularly, health screenings, flu clinics, Food Stamp Outreach, Facilitate Enrollment for health insurance programs and more are on site promoting services and encouraging participation in resources available to our target population. Frequently community service providers will be on-site to share information promoting the overall well-being of the lunch program guests. The Community Lunch Program has served as a central location to assure that low-income individuals had an active n role in the completion of the United Way's community-wellness survey.
Probably the most unique element of this program is the community-wide support the program generates. Catholic Charities of the Finger Lakes coordinates with the Geneva Inter-faith Council to provide the program. The program is housed in the First United Methodist Church of Geneva. Countless businesses, schools, churches, civic groups and individuals volunteer to prepare and serve meals daily. Our volunteer roster is more than 100 individuals strong. At a minimum of one-day-per week, area businesses sponsor the program contributing man-power and frequently food products necessary to prepare and serve the meal.
Please give! Your support of the Geneva Community Lunch Program will help assure that warm, nutritious meals are served to those in need.
