Livingston County Cares helps communities and individuals locally, regionally, statewide, nationwide and globally in humanitarian projects, including disaster relief and recovery efforts. Livingston County Cares was created in 2005 in response to the devastation from Hurricane Katrina on the Gulf Coast. Over 1,400 Livingston Cares volunteers have participated in 90 week-long service trips to help in the recovery from hurricanes in Mississippi, Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico. Livingston County Cares has also provided funding for humanitarian projects such as rebuilding houses, building schools in Nicaragua, supporting new tree nurseries in Haiti and the Philippines, providing water kits and hospital supplies to combat cholera in Haiti, purchasing tools for volunteers in Puerto Rico, and supporting the Geneseo/Groveland Emergency Food Pantry and the Home Away From Home Respite Program in Geneseo.
