Each year Meals On Wheels of Monroe County, a program of UR Medicine Home Care (formerly Visiting Nurse Service), provides more than 200,000 hot and nutritious meals to 1,500 frail seniors and people who are unable to prepare their own meals due to a physical or developmental disability. With the help of over 1,600 volunteers, we serve clients of all ages and ailments, regardless of their ability to pay.
Often far from family, or having outlived their friends and peers, our recipients depend on the kindness of their neighbors and services like Meals On Wheels. For many, a regular visit from a Meals On Wheels volunteer may be their only contact with another person that day. This interaction is crucial to keeping them healthy and preventing feelings of isolation and depression, which the home-bound tend to suffer.
With our dedicated volunteer force and generous donor support, we have been helping thousands of people increase their independence and improve their overall quality of life since 1958. Our mission is to keep seniors healthy and independent in their homes; provide nutritious meals to those in need; and serve as a vital safety check for our isolated neighbors.
Without Meals On Wheels, and contributions from caring people like you, many people in Monroe County would go hungry. We hope you will join us to ROC the Day on December 1st as we continue to fight hunger in our community!
