The Mental Health Association (MHA) of Rochester is a non-profit organization whose mission is focused on empowering individuals, parents and youth with behavioral or emotional health challenges to make choices and take actions that encourage mental and physical wellness. This is done by offering individualized support to community members to make informed decisions about their personal health and exploring solutions and strategies to promote wellness and recovery long-term.
Promoting wellness since 1932, the MHA of Rochester is committed to the concepts of self-help, mutual support, wellness and recovery. We believe that our assistance helps individuals with mental health needs live meaningful lives in the community and minimize health crises. We embrace the concept of peer support with over 80% of staff identifying as a consumer or family member of a person with a mental illness. Offering services that are provided by individuals with lived mental health experience sets the organization apart from other traditional mental health organizations in our community.
Our history of collaborating with formal mental health and substance use providers, as well as other community-based organizations in our area allows us to remain a neutral broker assessing all possible services and making referrals based on the needs of the person or family. This trauma-informed and culturally congruent approach has resulted in the crafting of an array of unique, strength-based, person-centered, health and wellness recovery services that connect people to their communities.
