The Military History Society of Rochester is a historical society with collections chartered by the Board of Regents of the State of New York and a Federal 501(c)3 organization. We cover U.S. military heritage from the War of 1812 through current time with a special focus on Rochester and Monroe County. Our displays contain many local stories and artifacts. One area of special focus is our collection of locally produced items made for the military, beginning with the Civil War. Besides the artifact collection, we house a 2000 book library dedicated to military history that is open to anyone who wishes to do research or just expand their knowledge. The Society has outreach programs that take us into schools and other civic organizations with a variety of presentations that high light our rich local heritage. Our internship program has drawn students from Nazareth, RIT, Brockport and several high schools. This year we are partnering with a local grade school to present an interactive Civil War Day for their fourth graders. We want to continue to expand our community based involvement.
