SWEM Community Services

For more than forty years Southwest Community Services, Inc. (SWEM), a food assistance agency, has been committed to helping relieve hunger in southwest Rochester, Scotsville, Gates, and Chili. Through partnerships with Foodlink we are a host site for distributing fresh produce and baked goods on a monthly basis to approximately 200 households. Every month we supply 150 low income seniors with two bags of emergency food including fresh produce, milk, eggs and butter. We help food insecure families when times are tough by providing bags of emergency food at different satellite sites on the west side of the city. We're truly a volunteer agency with only one half-time paid empolyee. We're an organization of neighbors helping neighbors, that welcomes collaboration. Our "Blessing Bags" meet some needs of the Homeless, with no-cook items & a list of other city & county services available. These are tough economic times, and those with less often suffer most. As government help decreases, and programs lose funding, more and more people find themselves struggling to make ends meet. The Children's agenda reports that half of Rochester's children live in poverty; for Monroe County children, the poverty rate is 24%. Children and families need our help. They need your help. Join us in making a difference!
