Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition of Ontario County

The Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition is made up of community leaders from the 12 sectors developed by SAMHSA which includes representatives from youth, families and community leaders from areas such as law enforcement, government, education, substance abuse prevention and treatment. Our mission is to collaborative engage collaboratively engage, inform and unite our communities in the reduction of substance abuse through prevention efforts. We are currently funded by New York State Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse (OASAS) from May 2015 - September 2019 to work on the opioid epidemic within our county. This grant utilizes a 5 year prevention framework that addresses heroin, opiates and prescription drug abuse within Ontario County. Our focus is youth ages 12-18 and young adults 18 - 25. We are currently implementing prevention strategies including restricting availability of prescription drugs in the home through our monitor, secure and dispose initiatives as well as expanding the medication take back program and raising awareness regarding risks around misuse.
