YWCA of Rochester & Monroe County

YWCA OF ROCHESTER & MONROE COUNTY eliminating racism, empowering women Using a trauma-informed approach, YWCA partners with individuals faced with poverty, race, gender disparities and personal crisis. Our goal is to help individuals and families obtain stability and personal economic empowerment. We have been here for local women and families since 1883 -- empowering women and girls to live stable, empowered lives. Our goal is to help empower women to regain control of their lives and to become successful participants in our community at large. Each year we help more than 1,000 women and girls in our community who are faced with homelessness, pregnancy, addiction, domestic violence and other crises. HOUSING AND SUPPORT SERVICES: Providing safe, supportive housing for women and children, and resources needed to develop and maintain self-sufficiency The YWCA offers the largest continuum of housing services for women in our community, from emergency housing for homeless women and children, to affordable apartments in safe neighborhoods. Many of our programs focus on recovery from addiction and mental illness and address poverty and racist barriers to independence. We offer hope - and proven results - for women in recovery who are making the transition to independent living. YOUNG ADULT SERVICES: Each year YWCA Young Adult Services help more than 200 teen and young adult parents navigate the challenges of parenting while moving ahead in their lives. Through counseling, case management, home visits, social activities and career direction, they further their education and secure the work skills and opportunities that will lead to a successful future for themselves and their children. RACIAL EQUITY YWCA has long understood that race and gender must be addressed together in order to create a society that ensures equality. All YWCA programs seek to create a world where all women and girls, especially women and girls of color, are free from racism and sexism, experience justice and equality and are able to thrive. For that reason, racial equity work is at the core of all we do.
